why gamers don't like ea

A new free version of Desert Combat is expected next week that will add new vehicles--notably a SCUD missile launcher for the Iraqi side and the A-10 for the US--but DeLise said that the mod may make the jump to being an expansion pack.

sure every company is "in it for the money", but ea is just that much worse with stuff like this and their ports.

or are there worse examples from other companies?

What does this have to do with EA? The guys who developed DC are independent, and now are thinking they can make some money off their creation, so they're shopping for a publisher. Can't blame them, really. If you developed a great piece of software/mod, were giving it away for free, and heard everyone rave about how great it was, wouldn't you be tempted to start charging?

The problem with EA is money over quality. They spend tons of money developing and markweting a grear game only to cheap out on it for the next few years. They dont care about bug fixes or roster updates, hell they dont even care about the PC platform. Concoles are where the money's at. The only PC game they care about is The Sims, which they are running into the ground.

With information readily availabel today, they should focus on a quality game istead of whose going to endorse it. Look at the recent release of MVP Baseball, they rushed that out the door before baseball season started. Other developers are the same way, EA just does it more often...

I hate EA because they took one of my favorite companies and destroyed all of the years of awesome work that they created! Games like C&C have just gone in the toilet since EA got ahold of them. Those guys act like they either don't care anymore or EA won't let them care. All EA ever seems to put out is dollar games. Make the most expensive, over hyped piece of junk game and do it with the least amount of cash and sucker people into buying it. I'll stick with my Red Alert 2 thank you. EA can go blow themselves as far as I'm concerned anymore.

Hm. Yeah, EA is successful, so they must be bad. Darn them to heck! Oh, and with the exception of the EASports line, EA doesnt make games, they just publish them... So any complaints about "not fixing games that are broke in Win2k" or whatever, should be aimed at the developers, not the publisher. Thats like saying it's Wes Craven's fault that Dracula 2000 sucked.

Its funny that kevin000 mentions that they were running the Sims into the ground... What's even funnier is that The Sims is a 3 year old game that they keep releasing expansions for, and is currently the best selling game EVER. Sims Online was an experiment, and its sure it's failing but they may actually fix it to make it a worthwhile avatar chat room.

LordRaiden despite your lack of an original nick, you also don't know much about Westwood and EA (who joined forces in 98). Red Alert 2 is a C&C game. Command and Conquer: Red Alert was the original, and was fantastic, as is Red Alert 2. The C&C: NOD / GDI struggle (Tiberian series) hasn't really changed the formula from day one. It's the same as it was when they started out, with some upgrades to graphics and new units, etc. C&C: Generals is a tremendous addition to the C&C universe. It's just funny that you poo-poo EA up and down, then say "I'll just stick with my Red Alert 2, thank you very much." If you need any more information on what exactly the C&C franchise consists of, let me know, or visit: http://westwood.ea.com/.

draggoon01 the quote "the mod may make the jump to being an expansion pack. " is a possibilty, there isnt anything written in stone. Kinda like when my mom told me "Jim, You'll grow up and be president one day!" I mean, it could happen someday, but no one really knows for sure. The guys behind DC are well on their way to doing what every modder wants to do, get recognized and get paid. It's what we call a "success story".

Everyone needs to stop trying to find fault in everything out there. If it wasn't for companies like EA, you wouldn't have the plethora of games to choose from and download off of IRC, not to mention QA would probably be 100x worse than it is because the tiny dev houses just dont have the resources to test as much as they do with a company like EA backing them.

Intake77: You don't know how Electronic Arts works. I deal with EA Sports every week through my website. There biggest mistake is support. They don't release patches to fix bugs that are blatantly there. They don't care about what the public has to say. Every year we submit a list of the most common requests and each year they are ignored. They rush there games to get them on shelves which is a mistake. Gaming is at its highest now, people want quality games. No one cares who endorses a game, they care about Game Play and Features. People will guy a game if its good no matter whose on the cover. Like I said about the trend of baseball games. They used to be released after the actual season started, now they are released almost before Spring Training.

The system is flawed and what is sad is every year they take out features that people loved. For instance, Triple Play 99 was the last baseball game by EA to have the catcher throw the ball back to the pitcher. They took it out in Triple Play 2000. We (the community) complained and I sent emails directly to my EA Sports Contact and still, 4 years later, the catcher doesn't throw back the ball.

I have loads and loads of examples if you'd like. More or less dealing with EA Sports as opposed to EA Games...

I bought a few EA games, and then waited for patches/updates. Well, they came, but you had to pay $39.9x for (NHL/NFL/Baseball/Basketball) 200x. I did that a couple times, no more. Some of them were no improvement. Screw them.

My dislike of EA stems from what they did to Origin Systems Inc, the publishers of the Ultima series, once they aquired the company.

I'm pretty sure Origin killed Origin with the release of Ultima IX. ;)

I dont see how that makes your point about them not listening to the 'community'. If I emailed EASports right now, and said "Hey, everyone I talk to thinks it would be cool if sometimes, when you hit homeruns, it would zoom in and you'd see the ball bounce off a hot-dog vendor's head.", I wouldnt expect it to be in the next year's version.

EDIT: I havnt played it yet, but has MVP Baseball 'fixed' their baseball series? Ever since the Sega Sports line hit 2k1, I've enjoyed them a LOT more than I have EASports titles.

I liked EA back in early 90's fro NES and they had pretty good soccer games (fifa) for genesis. I think don't like their games much anymore.

Also if companies are doing what EA has been doing, focusing on Consoles.. PC's are bust.
The only "new" game coming out is Doom 3 next year.. and in between there isn't much else.. except for sequels of older games (Raven Shield Rainbow 6/3, MoHAA expansion set, UT2 )
Where are newer and better games at?
About C&C.. there isn't much to do to a game based on RTS. Graphics can get you so far. After Red Alert 2, Westdwood and EA had nothing new to show.

That's why I like CS/DoD
I paid $20 for the game... playing it since 1999, to this very day. And ALL I paid is $20
I don't need to pay for my updates.. or anything else. (well ISP fee's of course)

Origin killed themselves when they gave up on making good games (Read: OMEGA, Space Rogue, Knights Of Legend, Tangled Tales).
EA used to put out a lot of great games as well, but now their games aren't very innovative, IMO.

Yes it was, I had XP when B&W was out... even if XP wasn't *officially* released, don't u think a company should be responsible enough to provide driver support NOW for a popular game on XP and fix CURRENT bugs for XP?
