Why even consider anything but the Duron for a new system?

You sound well informed. If you intend to spend more for power and cooling anyway, then for you the T-bird is still viable. I own a duron 600 and a T-bird 700 and they will sit until I can get the right mobo for them.My supplier wants me to buy the MSI 6340 but that doesn't ring my bells.

If the Duron or T-bird can be over clocked,I will be here telling everyone about it(I am just a commoner). My disapointment comes from the announcement that the cpu's are clock locked and I know it will be a damn site harder to try and overclock than any Intel platform I can get my hands on.

Maybe someone will sell me an Abit KT7 to try out. MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm

Well said, but there is no parity of product in your example as I maintain there never is! The 'Duty' of an upstart company is to do it better and cheaper or it doesn't stand a chance.

This comes from 2 decades of experience on the front lines of wholesale and retail management.

"Since it may not be possible, especially with future revisions of the Thunderbird & Duron, to overclock your CPUs as we have been able to with our engineering samples..."

What is this??!!! Am I going crazy, or isnt't it a fact that you probably won't be able to change the multiplier via software, but it's very possible - though not easy - with changing the contacts on top of the cpu? I'll be trying that unless suddenly that's not possible either?? Maybe I'll fry it, but then again, the Duron 600 is very cheap.

EVERYBODY's talking about the cpu being impossible to overclock??! I don't understand? Please inform me!
