Why even bother with Blu Ray?

Especially when HD-DVD is offering better picture quality (as of now anyways) at a fraction of the cost? Not to mention, people already identify with the DVD name brand.

I want be bothering with either for awhile

The difference in quality is pretty stunning- it's night and day.

The difference in quality is like going from a 1000 watt light bulb to a 2000 watt light bulb. Sure, it's better, but very few people will ever know.

Really, I don't see any value is getting rid of DVDs right now. Unless they are going to give me more content, I really don't care. The quality of a DVD is already pretty nice.

blu ray is going to win out over HD simply because it has higher capacities. The deciding factor here will not be media/movies, it will be data storage.

They said the same thing about Betamax.

I'm with you on this one. HD-DVD is superior. Just because one may have more capacity than the other doesn't mean anything at all if the technology is bad.

I'll teach one lesson here and that's it:

It will come done to who has the better supply chain and support from media moguls. SUPERIOR does not win a slightly less superior product.

Go wiki VHS vs BETAMAX and come back here.

Well if you take into account that plus all the sony bashing going on... well I guess blu-ray has no chance? Too bad there isn't a single unbiased opinion on the subject.

You come across as one who thinks he/she is the only one who has heard of, or experienced, Betamax. I also remember how many format wars Sony has won.....

To be honest, I want blu-ray to take hold. Its large capacities would be awesome for backup.

Because some people have enough common sense to not judge a format based on the initial release? That and the superior capacity.
