Why eBay sucks reason #94: Is this guy trying to rip me off?

Follow along, this is fun.

I sold this item.

Buyers feedback looks great, right? Great. Shipped him the item, he recieved it. It was packed *extremely well.*

I get this email a couple hours ago:

To member: iwearnosox
From member: digiphotor

--------------------

I received the Tivo, pluged it in, it boots a couple of screens and then goes to a green screen stating "severe error". After a while, it reboots, goes through a couple of screen and then back to the green screen. It repeats this continuously.

Now what do I do?

Ron
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who is digiphotor? His bids.

This guy is playing some game with tivos and he screwed up by emailing me with the wrong ID, right?

Edit: Did you take down the serial number of your unit by chance before you sent it?
Yeah I did. But there's no way I'm taking back posession of this thing< i can guarantee you he'll f*** it up to save face and I'll be left with a dead tivo.

He bought something from me and emailed saying it's broken. The problem is he emailed me from a different ID, which show purchases of the same item he sold me, only broken.

i'm confused too...your explanation didn't make sense to me....that or I'm just not very smart tonight 😛

you say the different ID (digiphotor) shows purchases of the same item he sold you? I thought YOU sold him the digital recorder.

The Tivo he bought that was the same model # as yours was supposed to be working, it's another auction for a different model that's listed as not working.

yea it looks like he messed up..

It looks like what the person did was buy a working tivo thingy from iwearnosox and a confirmed broken tivo thingy from someone else and tried to pin the refund on iwearnosox.

ive got a similar thing going on with a guy and some ram i just sold...it left here working perfectly and about as well packaged as ive ver done ram...it gets there and hes having trouble with it...insited on not paying for insurance...and hes in Puerto Rico...he expects me to refund his money first and then he'll ship me my stick back...and on top of that only has 2 evals (well 4 actually but 3 from the same person)...I told him id give him a positive eval but not taking the mem back...its pny ram...if its really not working he can take advantage of their lifetime warrenty protection
theres just too many scammers on there these days it seems like...after this latest round of auctions im really considering giving it up on there all together when it comes to selling at least 😛

It's the same *type* and model as the one I sold him. He's clearly got some type of tivo hacking thing going on.

Yes, he emailed me with the wrong ID, I emailed back asking what transaction it was related to, then he replied with the right ID/email for our transaction. It's him.

now that wouldnt make much sense now would it?

If he's not lying then why does he have a separate ID buying *broken* units?

I emailed him:

Well, you're clearly some type of tivo expert, that's all you seem to buy and sell. You've also got separate ID's buying broken tivos. Have you had the unit apart, modified it or attempted to do something with the access card?

He replied:

Not an expert or I wouldn't have to email you about how to fix it....just buy and sell. Haven't tampered with it in any way. Just plugged it in when arrived. I've had units with green screens a couple times in the past but they always fixed themselves...this one keeps recycling. Didn't tamper with the card, it's a P4. What would the card have to do with a green screen? It will go green without a card in slot.

Maybe I don't know my TiVo stuff too well, but the one iwearnosox sold him is a Phillips, but the broken one he bought is a Sony...How can get a refund from iwearnosox if he sends the broken one he bought if it is different?

He might have parts, etc from dead tivos past. You can interchange sony to philips parts to some degree as well..

Your best advice right now is to inform Ebay of what is happening. It sounds like he is up to something and it would be best to let them know what is going on.

They won't do anything, it's purely speculative at this point, unfortunately.

You already have evidence of attempted fraud. He tried to get a refund on an item you never sold him.

Wow, not what's going on. Please reread, the two ID's are the same person. He is claiming the thing I sold him is defective.
