Why dual monitors?

I see that the Radeon VE supports "dual monitors". What does this actually mean? Do they both function as desktops so I could double my workspace? Does it mean I can play a DVD on the one while I work on the other?

Someone please explain it to me 🙂

I'm running two 21" in dual head mode. E-mail and AnandTech forums on one, spread sheets and real work on the other. Its great to have a 3200 x 1200 at 85Hz desktop.

So it effectively doubles your workspace? Interesting.

Will each screen have a start menu then? If I put an icon on the desktop on one screen will it appear on the other? If I move my mouse to the end of one screen will it appear on the other screen? Any webpages that I can read about this on?

Sorry for so many questions, but I just learned about this and it has me fascinated 🙂

Yes, you are right the dual head allows you to have to monitor function like a single desktop 😀. I have a triple monitor setup and it is absolutely worth it. However games sometimes have a problem with it so for a gaming rig I'd stick with just one. A friend of mine has the Radeon VE with a 32" Sony Wega tv hooked up to it. He can have it be an extended desktop as a second monitor or display the same video signal as his monitor. He plays Counter Strike on it and watch's DVD's on it as well as TV with his WinTV card. Multi Monitor is the way to go, forget about all that windowed stuff 🙂

Only one of the displays will have the Start bar but it can be anchored to any wall of any display 🙂 also if you move your mouse pointer to the adjacent edge of the screen it will move from that display to the adjacent one. The positioning of the displays is controled in the display settings & properties area. Here is a web page with info on Multi display setup 🙂

They even have a gallery with pics of peoples setups some Quad display setups in there too 😀

I have to rage cards in my mac station at work, have quark on one screen, word or photoshop on the other. It's pretty useful, but you really have to train yourself to take advantage of it. Of course, a 450mhz Mac is barely capable of scrolling a window and playing an MP3 at the same time. And stability? Win 95 beats os 9! And yet, people keep telling me how great macs are for my job--too bad they don't have to actually do my job and find out the truth.
