Hi

every time I hit Return in Word 2003 to skip down to the next line, it makes it double spaced! I have to hit SHIFT+RETURN in order to make the cursor jump down single spaced to the next line. The document is set for single spaced.

I'm normally a Wordperfect user.

Any info is appreciated!!
Thx!

It's not double spaced per say, but spacing between two paragraphs of text. Everytime you are hitting return you are indicating that you are starting a new paragraph. As paragraphs are generally easier to read with a little spacing between them Office apps by default have a spacing of the same height as the default font (ie 10pt) If you don't like them change the spacing after paragraph to 0pt in the options.

thx for the reply!
I was doing that now and find it annoying to do each time.

I decided to just make a new document and paste what I had into it. Then I clicked the radio button for just keep text. Now it works normally. I have no idea how or why it changed to double space in the earlier document.. :(

Thx!

Try this option and see if it stops:

Tools, Options, Edit, uncheck "smart paragraph option"

Paragraphs in Word have quite a few options so it can be quite daunting. If something's causing issues I recommend just setting it to Normal style and then redoing whatever style you had.

I always get weird spacing problems when I copy from a webpage but if I tell it to paste as 'plain text' everything is fine.

Format > Styles and formatting. Modify the normal style then select format paragraph and set the spacing after to 0pt.
