Why don't they sale the very small and economical cars that they sell in Europe here in the US? Gas Price related. . .

I'd love to be able to buy a little 2 banger with 2 seats - just super basic no frills transportation.

Why can't I?

Are they kidding? Now I'm not talking about making a bmw mini that costs 20k - I'm talking about a cheap no frills car brand new for about 5k - and not a YUGO either - something easily servicable from common parts, and just runs.

No electric stuff, no computer, even a carberator is fine, just a basic standard shift, you crank the windows yourself, 2 door, 2 seat, 70 mph is the top speed car.

Aggressively market it to lower income persons and teenagers, young adults - etc.

It would sell.

Urban\Suburban sprawl...

I drive 50 miles round trip daily and that's a pretty normal commute for my office.

I never understood crash test standards. They say they have standards - then they allow motorcycles.

If persons want the same risk driving a car that a person assumes driving a motorcycle - the government should not interfere.

Hmm...you do have a point there. Then they have seat belt laws and such, yet (here in Texas anyway) you aren't even required to wear a helmet on a motoycylcle anymore (as far as I know).

typically if you wear a seatbelt you can walk away from an accident. typically if you wear a motorcycle helmet the only thing that might work on you is your brain. with a seatbelt it is a choice of being killed or surviving intact. with a motorcycle helmet it is more like being killed or being a parapalegic. many people who ride bikes are independent, and if they were no longer independent they wouldn't want to live.
