Turn on the news? No need to make movies when you can see it in real life.

Because no one goes to watch Michael Mann movies.

Seriously, I don't get it either.

I have seen it (Heat) twice... 2005 and 2016. My personal notes contain this:

"...The ending left me dissatisfied, therefore. It was too predictable in a movie that was pretty unpredictable until then. I could hope, couldn't I? The final scene with Deniro and Pacino hunting each other near the runways of LAX was pure Hitchcock."

Michael Mann?

I thought that name looked familiar. His company also brought you Michael Torello, Ray Luca, Paulie Taglia, Sonny Crocket, Rico Tubbs and Gina Calabrese, among others.

You crazy. The ending of Heat is fucking fantastic. And that music that is playing ... wow. Powerful stuff.

Crime dramas seem out of fashion these days. In the '80s-'90s, cop shows/movies were all the rage. Not sure what changed. Maybe all the ugliness around police actions that has come to light over the past few decades has soured the public.

Also, according to Matt Damon, the loss of the DVD business has made non-spectacle movies unprofitable.

Heat is one of the rare movies where you don't feel the 3 hours have past at all, it's very well paced and engrossing throughout.

There are a lot of good shootout movies. I thought one of the best among modern ones is "Den of Thieves."

Heat is overrated as shit. Its basically the movie that assholes realizing raving about and glamorizing Scarface made them look like assholes decided to rave about.

Good god, that's like a jerkoff list for jerkoff movie auteurs, although I'm surprised 1 wasn't just "every 90s Tarantino movie".

To be clear, none of these are bad movies, I'd even say most are good and there's at least one or two that are great. Its the insufferable dickheads that think that stuff is the pinnacle of cinema that is the issue.

Oh god, the jerkoff that wrote that went full dickhead and even made a Taylor Swift analogy.

he was a big name in the 80s-ish, i gotta say i only watched 2 films by him, Last Of The Mohicans and Collateral.
Today that i am old, i appreciate Last a lot more, but when i watched it back when, i thought it was meh. Not enough unrealistic explosions n'stuff.
Collateral, i thought it sucked the first time i saw it, then i felt the need to watch it again, and i liked it more. Again, same reason, not enough booms and pewpews for a film about a hitman hitting mans. Mann's films are, from what i can tell, understated; obviously the general public is going to demand a bit more pzzazz.

^^^ I'm not one to recommend TV shows normally, but the first season of 'Crime Story' is worth watching. Some of you might even recognize the red headed snot nosed punk named Johnny O'Donnel

It was also the first TV appearance of Julia Roberts.
