Why don't they make 16:9 CRT monitor?

Apple makes one, it's absurdly expensive though. A friend of mine has one at her home office, it looks fantastic.

I'm willing to bet the dot pitch get's absolutely awful out near the edges, without some special engineering.

Dell has one that's 24" as well, not sure if it's exactly 16:9 though.

i have used it, maybe good for watching movies, but while typing on word, the text page was stretched, very awkward to use.

BVMF24U 24" CTR CineAlta Monitor: List at $35 000.00

PFM42B1/H 42" SuperSlim Flat Panel Plasma: List at $7,999.00

PFM32C1 32" Flat Panel Display: List at $5,999.00

It is not that difficult to make a monitor of that dimension compare to the regular CTR. They have to create new mold for the 16:9 dimension & there will be some light quality loss at the edge, but that could be compensated by various techniques of lens deployment. The main reason is that the manufacture isn?t betting their business on an old technology and the consumer demand the newer & better/cheaper LCD/plasma process.

i wish, frankly it would be useful.. two pages side by side, and not wasting any space on films.. so sweet. but extra screen area = extra cost:p :( and thats totally what fps games need, the more they filll your field of vision the more convincing.
