Why dont search engines on most commercial sites work?!

Ill go to like niketown.com or something and Ill search for something im 100% sure they have and I can navigate to, but when I search for the same thing, it never comes up. This happens all the time at a ton of websites, what giveS?!

I've noticed this too. Microsoft's own search engine for thier knowledge base NEVER comes up with what I'm looking for, google on the otherhand does. There are some companies that I avoid specing in parts for because I can never find a datasheet.
 
different engines use different syntax than google for multiple words, and often the search is not of the product description just of the short name that appears in listings.

but yes it can be annoying to look for say HP 2300 at buy.com and have the search be too stupid to find the 2300L etc. because of the extra letters.
