ok, headin up i95, and starting to smack into the mixing bowl... and it starts raining... and then suddenly rains really hard.. gotta notch up a few times on the wiper to even see. everyone is driving <20mph cause it's hard enough to see.. but of course there are two cars in front of me (one directly, one a lane over) w/o their lights on.... grr.. i can see them.. barely. but would it kill em to give me and others less of a headache by turnin on their lights?? to top it off, the guy in front of me was in a dark car.. just blending into the background..

ugh.. rant over.

AGREED. Idiot drivers... I turn on my lights AND my fogs. Bonus points if you have a rear fog light (some European cars- saw a Volvo T5-R turbo wagon in the blinding rain on I-20 in Texas last Friday night with one. Pretty cool).

What is this "rain" you speak of?

it hasn't rained here in at least, oh, 4 months. Actually, it hasn't even been cloudy.

Well, isn't it a friggin LAW in most states??
I know it is in NJ... heck, I especially like driving on the highway and seeing several "Welcome to NJ" in the rain that also say "Wipers On, Lights On, It's the LAW" and also, "Buckle Up, It's the Law" signs right after that. I usually have my passenger look at the drivers that are stupid enough to not only ignore those gigantic signs but to drive right past the state troopers in the rain like that, just to see who they are.

Another big pet peeve I have is people with turn lamps or brake lamps out... can't spring for a $2 light bulb?? Or do you want to get into an accident!?!

Oh, and yeah, driving without lights at night... they want out of the gene pool fast!!! Those people and those that drive with flat/nearly flat tires. I'm flashing and honking at you for a reason!!! Yo buddy, I'm trying to HELP you here...

I especially love being honked at when I stop when there's a green light at an intersection because I don't wanna cause gridlock... morons.

Because they're idiots and they're inconsiderate morons.

Ahhh... even on a good and clear day, the mixing bowl by Springfield royally sucks.

Same storms I hit heading from Ohio to Pittsburgh, and the same complaint. As far as the "wipers on, headlights on" law goes, most states actually don't have a law like that, rather it's based on visibility. In Ohio the law is that headlights are required if visibility is less than 1000 feet IIRC. Of course, if one has to slow to 20 mph for the rain then visibility is obviously less than 1000 feet so the people are technically breaking the law in any case. To the best of my recollection, only Hawaii has no law regarding daytime headlamp usage.

Interesting related tidbit, in OH headlights are required "from one hour after sunset until one hour before sunrise". No, I didn't reverse "sunset" and "sunrise". I believe that the 1000 ft visibility law superceedes (sp?) this law though.

A sight i really like is when it rains terribly hard that everyone drives like 5-10mph and has their hazards on. At first i thought it was dumb, but then it made sense. The yellow blinkers makes cars that much more visible and helps guide the following car.

It actually bothers me more when people turn on their parking lights at dusk/in reduced visability conditions than having no lights at all, because those people are driving around with a false sense of visibility. People who think they can be seen when they can't are more dangerous than those who are just plain oblivious.

i doubt those who don't turn on their lights are aware that they are not being seen well.

yeah it doesn't really bother me but its kinda a curtosey (and in some places yeah its the law)

another question... Do you flash people after passing a cop who's watching for speeding? I've had 2 people do this to me recently and its kinda nice. The first time I had no idea why they were flashing their lights at me, then I caught on. Kinda a handy idea if everyone does it :)
