I was gonna post this refering mainly about smokers, but then some person sat beside me and smells like someone took a sh!t on their head and tried covering it with a car air freshener.

Seriously, how the hell do these people not know how bad they smell? This guy beside me stinks and there are no other free computers in the lab. :|

ones nose quickly adjusts to any odor - basically becoming desensitized.

Smell roses for 5 minutes and you won't be able to smell them anymore.

So in all honesty the OP could have terrible BO and not even know it.

The same reason why smokers don't realize how awful they smell to non-smokers.

You can only smell a smell for a few minutes. Then you brain turns off the signal from your nose. The smell is still there, but you cannot sense it. Haven't you seen those Fabreeze commercials? They have a person (or even a dog) repeatedly leaving then entering a room. Why? Because by turning a smell on/off you will smell it much stronger than if you just walk into the room and have the smell on at all times.

People have houses with definite odors (old people smell, musty smell, moldy smell, pet smell, etc.) You can always smell other people's houses, but you never smell your own. Same reason.

This is why I carry Frabreeze with me where ever I go. Spray spray spray and the person either smells better or gets pissed off and leaves. Either way its fixes the problem.

Deeko, whatever happened to that smelly guy who lived in your dorm? Wasn't there a plan to throw him in the shower or something?

I think that you have a long road to travel before you elimanate smoke oders from smokers in Canada. I go fishing up in Manitoba twice a year in a fly-in-lodge by snow lake and EVERYBODY smokes continuously except for me ;)

I swear there's a guy at work that would rub his un-washed armpit and then smear all over his body.

It's people that wash their hands all the time that cause germs to be so much stronger. If you go ahead and live with the germs, your body will not get dependent on 'clean' environments. We live in a dirty world, live with it.

My all-time most annoying travel experience (and I have flown hundreds of times, including a fair bit of international travel) was when I was seated next to an overweight hippy woman and her two kids on a flight between Minneapolis and NYC. She had hairy pits, and the worst BO I have ever experienced in a human, including the homeless.

I guess she thought deodorant was just another example of the Man trying to keep her down, or something, but I nearly leapt out the emergency exit to get away from that discourteous bitch! God help those kids.
