Why don't people ever listen to me when it comes to cars?

I was helping my buddy out by finding him a nice cheap, but quick car. I found him a handful of early 90's Turbo Dodges with low (5 digit) milage for dirt cheap (all less than 2 grand). I know a good amount about these cars, so I told him if anything happened with it, I could find him an answer and help him fix it asap. For the money, you really can't get a faster and more reliable car. He was into it, he was all hyped up to get one and start modding it.

He calls me just now, "I'm getting a 93 Talon TSi, with 160k on it for only 3 grand!" *smacks forehead*

god, I can understand if he didn't want what I showed him, but not a turbo car with 160k on it

He better hope the turbos were recently replaced or else he is going to spend a whole lot more than expected.

160k? Goooooooooood, the timing belt should be just about ready to self-destruct and wreck the engine for the second time around.

If he is going to buy that car, make SURE the timing belt has been changed recently. :)

The whole reason he wanted a Turbo was because of my Shelby. I told him, with the inclusion of an intercooler, he could have a car that's every bit as fast as mine, so he was hooked on a Turbo Dodge, I found him some Shadows, Daytonas, and even sleepers like the Spirit :D I thought he'd be a 2.2 / 2.5 lover like I am (and as thedarkwolf is as well :D)

The spirit R/T would be a fun car to have for a beater/sleeper. They're hard to find and resale values show it .

I remember the sweet sound of valves hitting the pistons of my 1st wife's 93 Eagle Talon after the dealership replaced the belt, but neglected to replace the tensioner... They put in a brand new head & replaced all the pistons, after I drove it about 20 miles after the tensioner collapsed (I was seriously pissed & wasn't about to let them replace the tensioner & ignore the screwed up valves)...

I have a Daytona R/T on the side, it's a blast beating up on 5.0's (the ones that think they're fast, that is) :D

I came across two 92 daytona Iroc 2.5l turbo for sale on the web yesterday. Not as cool as the RTs but there were only 230 of Iroc 2.5l turbos made that year so they are still pretty cool. Plus they don't have the head problems the dohc 2.2l do.

If you keep an eye on the head there's no issues. The only REAL problem is the core plugs, once replaced, the head is every bit as reliable as any other one :) The timing belt also has to be watched, the tension tends to loosen up and break belts from time to time

Same thing for me, but about computers. People always ask me for advice and many just blow it off... then they go and do exactly what I said not to (which is fine) but then they expect sympathy / beg for help when they run into problems. I hate that. I will still help friends/family but still it pisses me off.
