Why don't more companies see this way?

The concept of happy workers = more productive seems logical to me... As well as realizing the fact that people give most of their waking hours of the day to the company, why not make it less painful?

Did you read more than the headline?

Analytical Graphics, Inc (AGI) also gives workers access to a free laundry service, free meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner - all week and access to free snacks, confectionary and drinks. And if there are concerns that all this free nosh might pile on the pounds, there's also a gym. Which is free.

That's still a complete waste to me.

I'd rather get paid more than get a bunch of free perks.

Google has very good perks for their employees and apparently is a very relaxed place to work as well...

They say that they might have to drop a lot of it once they go public because of stockholder sentiment. A lot of the 'evil business empire' reputation comes from stockholder pressure to perform and outperform.

In BL (Before Lawyers) time a lot of large corps used to do stuff like that. I remember when GTE Telenet would have quarterly keg and food parties outside the Corporate HQ.

A lot of companies are well aware of this, but it's not cheap to provide all of these handouts and they often come at the expense of higher wages. My present company, for instance, has entertained all of these perks (with the exception of the free beer which has ALWAYS been provided to us monthly, along with free pizza), but the cost of providing free food to all employees would bankrupt us.

I worked for another company prior to this, and they did offer free food. 3 meals a day, snacks, drinks, all you can eat. You could even get a take-out dinner. And the food was WONDERFUL. There were a lot of other perks there, too.

But at the end of my college career, my starting salary at the former employer was offered at $50k, while my starting salary at the latter employer was offered at $35k.

So tell me....which would make you a happier emloyee.....free lunch? Or $15000? Free lunch? $15000?
Hmmmm......

Well, I don't know many who would argue against that. To me I am impressed with the mindset a company must have to do these kinds of things. I am sure the list above is not all-inclusive either.

And I agree with gigapet, probably very unlikely for a large company to do such a thing unless there were 5 billion studies showing how it saved the company money at some point.

I'm not used to being up this early. I still hear the whine in my ears of waking up early.
