I'm 28 in 2 months. I make a good living, drive a nice car and own a nice home. I have more then enough money to splurge on things I deam reasonable to splurge on. I'm also a gamer and mostly a PC gamer, but I am somewhat frugal about certain things.
I try to limit myself on how many movies I go to the theatre for since, for me, I think they simply charge way too much. Because of that I go and see maybe one movie a month if that. I won't pay $60 for most of the games out today for the nxt gen systems which is why I haven't bought one. Even though I buy a lot of games, its usually once their below $50 or even $40 for the PC or even less. I still have a lot of fun with my PS2, frankly.
I will never play any MMO because I simply won't pay $15 for a game monthly. One reason is because I think its outrageous and play games like COD4, CSS and other FPS's online for free and always have. After I buy the game I play once every couple weeks online and never worry. People that pay for an MMO play it nearly every day, partly because they almsot feel like they have to to get there moneys worth. I don't play games every day much less the same game. I play my PS2 sometimes, sometimes I play on my PC.
If an MMO ever comes out that has a reasonable fee, something like being charged $15 for 60 hours of play or something then maybe. I find it incredible that people spend so much of their time on WOW, assinine is the right word - and for those douche bags that play it 4 hours a day, every day - they more then get their moneys worth. I'll never play a game that much, I'd get sick of it if I did. Its simply not me. I can get a game like GTA IV (once its out on PC) and probably get a few hundred hours of play out of it. A game like FF XII for my PS2 I got 200 hours out of, over the course of 6 months. If it was an MMO I would of paid $140 for a game I paid $30 for. And I'll probably pay $30 or $40 for GTA IV and that game will have online play for free, just like almost every game always has.
So as I said, if they had a model I found reasonable - and I'm not sure the $15 for 60 hours is reasonable but for the right game I'd probably pay something like that. Say if I got 60 hours WITH the purchase of the game for $40 or something, and then $15 for every 60 hours after that - I'd probably do it. Thats the only model I can think of I'd pay simply because I might go a month without playing the game - why should I be paying for it during that month? Or the month after where I play it for only 2-3 hours a week? Reminds me of this friend who got his Satelite radio receiver stolen but yet still went on to pay for sattelite radio, didn't bother to cancel his subscription. Personally, that is how I would feel if I was paying for a game every month like this.
Its fine for all these people with no life, nothing better to do, no GF or simply a GF that also enjoys wasting their life away on ONE SINGLE GAME. But not me and that person will never be me. I simply enjoy switching games too. BTW I have a friend who plays WOW and his GF plays WOW and its practically all they do, its really annoying. I simply don't get it.
