Why don't Intel and AMD use CPGA anymore?

I don't think that there's any practical benefit to making a CPU package out of ceramic, but I miss the days when CPUs had a nice solid feel. The last CPGA CPU I remember was the first-gen Opteron. Why have Intel and AMD completely switched over to OPGA?

amd is still using pins, intel uses lands - but both are using organic now.

they're just ways to extend the bga connections out to a easily usable form by the public. i'd guess the ceramics are more expensive to process than what's essentially a small circuit board

if the industry could find a way to make a cheap reliable socket for just dies alone they probably would switch.

I'm not referring to the use of pins or lands. I'm asking why Intel and AMD don't use ceramic as their package material for their CPUs. I suppose you're right about it costing more, but it would still be nice for them to use ceramic. For example: The Athlon "Thunderbird"

I am sure that this is an issue of cost. Even if they could make the ceramic version, the market would be very small, not even a blip on the radar of profits.
