Why don't boxers wear cups?

Nothing worse than seeing a boxer withering in pain from a low blow to the groin.

I don't think they should be wearing any protective gear but c'mon...at least let the guys wear a cup.

ps - good fight on HBO. Dude was rolling on the ground "man he hurt my ****, wrong, if f'in hurts!" A perfect power punch right to the frank-n-beans.

i do beleive they do. a cup is not going to keep it from hurting (it still does!) it is to keep them from getting permanant damage.

A cup just barely helps. Even if it blocks a direct hit, your crotch will take the full brunt of the impact around the edge of the cup, so it still hurts like hell.

I wonder if MMA's do? I know it is illegal but it bound to happen, I'd hate to take a kick there.

yeah they do. well at least in UFC. watch them before they get in. they hit it showing that it is in heh.

yeah, I guess you're right. I've gotten some pretty strong hits down there (other sports) and it still hurts. Plus there's the whole shock factor...."is everything alright down there!!??"

It can happen incidently and the boxer is warned/penalized. Do it again and many times the ref will forefit you. This blow was gnarly, it was the kind of body shot that can knock people out but langed squarely up and into the groin.

yeah that was a nasty low blow. looked intentional also.


i watched one fight where the guy landed 3 low blows. the ref took a point and warned him that another one would be a forfeiture. the guy did it again and the ref just warned him again. then the guy did it again (5th one) the ref took away another point! at this point the crowed is screaming and the other boxers corner is yelling. then the guy did it a 6th time and finally the ref stopped it. i was shocked it took that long.'

oh and now i want to watch the rest of the fight hah
