It's because they just burn all the offensive books, no need to rate them.

There are book clubs and stuff all over the friggin place. Hell even Oprah reviews books. Amazon.com has user reviews and lots of them go into decent detail. I really want to ask did you even bother looking before asking?

Theres millions of books for you to read. Why dont you read what you like instead of what some asshole tells you to read?

Are you reading 10 books a week?
Do you really need a rating system to filter out everything?

No guys, I think he is talking about ratings. Like PG and R, not 4 stars. To be honest, I've never thought about it before, but it totally makes sense. I guess people believe the easily influenced don't care enough to read.

lol, I for one never even look at ratings when I want to watch, listen, or play something.

I was just curious why, considering how much of a nanny society we live in, books don't have ratings. You are acting like I'm in favor of them or something. lol

Besides which, you've already read Starship Troopers which is the greatest book ever written.
Do you need anything else?

That's probably it. People are too stupid to read these days anyway.

Everyone know kids don't read books. They don't need a rating.

Most kids don't have the reading skills to actually comprehend the naughty books until they're old enough for the content anyway.

Plus you can't see actually the boobies.

You obviously don't live in the UK.

To answer your question, because it is a stupid idea.

Never heard of "I have no idea what to read, please tell me and I'll buy your book" club?

If you mean "how good is it rating":
Probably cause some elitist reader will find a way to say it's artistic, and new-age, revolutionary, blah, blah, blah.

If you mean "scenes of violence, coarse language and explicit sexual scenes":
Words will never hurt you?

lol...I learned quite a few curse words at the age of six when I read Phil Simms' autobiography. Hell, I use a lot of them to this day.

If your answer is correct, it raises a new question. Why do video games, movies, and music all get rated?

Well then they could at least give BTU/page ratings, right?
