It's very hot here in today and as I was looking to see how th Mets were doing lately, I started thinking....

Baseball players must get very hot in all that gear, standing around in the sun for hours

Why don't they wear shorts ? I am sure it would be more comfortable.....

Sliding on grass (soccer) is different from sliding on clay (baseball). Clay hurts a lot more.

On the second though, my 9 year old brother plays baseball, and they wear shorts. Go figure.

Hey what about GOLFERS? The PGA tour requires MALE golfers to wear long pants but it allows the WOMEN golfers to wear shorts - what's up with that?

(I know I know - the women have nicer legs...:D)

Imagine getting pegged with a ball, at least the pants provide some protection.

Yes. Baseball cleats are usually made of either hard plastic or steel. Quite painful :p

If you want to talk cleats, you have to talk about rugby.

Most people use metal cleats. Part of the pre-game involves the ref running his hand along everyone's studs to make sure they aren't sharp. People get stepped on infinitely more in Rugby than in baseball.

Would you ever want to dive/slide on that godforsaken turf they play on in Montreal?

Or even along the dirt basepaths?

I don't know how the softball players do it, but maybe they don't have to slide as much considering the field is smaller, etc.
