Why don't all cars come with a "deleted" compass?

It's seriously the most basic fucking navigational tool and would cost a few dollars to implement at most and yet it's non existent in the vast majority of the cars. DAFUQ?

While the occasional curse/swear word in body of a post is fine please keep the titles civil...
Note that this is not OT...

What do you do when it's cloudy?

A digital LCD reading in front of my face on the dash would be a lot safer than staring up in the sky while driving. Plus unless you live in some rural town, the sky glows purple at night and you hardly see any stars.

I would like to make it clear that I don't actually navigate by the stars at night.

Every man comes equipped with an internal compass. If you aren't a man, you wouldn't understand.

Every car I've owned since 1996 has had an on-board compass.

What cars don't have these, besides stripper econo-turds?

Internal compass that sits on top driver's shoulders' works pretty great.

Some how such utilization has been lost with technology creeps :hmm:

Don't worry, I am sure if enough people cry about it like you do, the NHTSA will mandate it, so all of us can pay more for our cars because people like you can't read highway markers or tell where the sun is.

I could read both of em, but they aren't available all the time. Pay more for it? Jesus fuck, are you gonna cry about a few dollars?

dollars a car = millions a year in profit.

$25-100 per unit cost to design, develop and install when not digital equipped. If digital, software has to be developed to integrate with existing digital displays.

Can they add that price to the MSRP or do they eat the few million of R&D etc.
