I just installed XP recently. I've got an Abit IT7 MAX with built-in firewire ports. They're listed properly under IEEE 1394 in the device manager, and they are also listed under "network adapters."
I also just bought a new Pro Tools 002 setup for digital audio, which has a firewire box you need to plug in. When I plug it in, the manual says I should get the usual "new hardware found" stuff, but I don't get it, and when I install the software, it says it can't find the hardware. When I plug the firewire cable into the pro tool box, the connection LED lights up for about 1 second, and then goes out again. it doesn't go on at all if the other end isn't connected to the computer, so I think the cable is probably ok (it's the one it came with). i've tried all combinations of both ports on both the computer and the box.
Am I missing some setting or something? Does having Windows run the firewire ports as network adapters screw up their ability to work normally with peripherals?
Thanks in advance. Let me know if more info is needed.
edit: and yes, the pro tools box is turned on
