It would definitely make police shootouts and pursuits more "interesting".

Hmmm...

Do SWAT teams generally try to take there target alive? Or if it gets that far are they usually execution teams?

Most likely because SWAT is usually called into a hostage situation. Your gatling gun is just going to turn everyone (including hostage) into Hamburger Helper.

I don't know how you don't have the same reputation that Phillipine Mango has here. The level of your posts is pretty similar to his.

lets just give them nukes. that'll show those criminals trying to avoid their parking tickets :|

at any rate I wonder what kind of effect of them just having helo's w/ mini guns would be. I would certainly think twice about running if I knew they had some of those circling around.

Because SWAT is generally involved in hostage rescue situations where they can't just blow the fvck out of a vehicle/building. Highway patrol and staties handle pursuits.

Because it would violate what the T in SWAT stands for.

Real life scenarios are rarely if ever depicted accurately on the big screen. If they were, the audience would be sleeping.

They don't use such equipment because pursuant to Brower v. Inyo County, to do so would likely lead to a seizure under the 4th amendment and would subsequently allow the family of the deceased criminal to sue the state.
