why doesn't the government have greater transparency?

I'm curious about this because of all the recent conspiracy threads--who thinks that the government is better by virtue of keeping things classified from the Korean War? Why not have a policy that the Pentagon won't lie? So it won't tell people everything of course, but it won't lie either.

Is it just that nobody cares about the government's dirty little secrets?

Mostly because those who could do the most damage against the courts in the legal system, realize far in advance that trying to get the government to anti up on anything they dont want to, is the equivalent to fighting an uphill battle on a linoleum floor with axle grease for shoes.

The gov't won't do anything unless the voters insist on it, and hold them accountable. Most people are too complacent and that's why things aren't better, b/c we don't demand it and make them stick to it.
