It seems like that would be the best way to overcome the "wired or wireless" quandary that plagues these kinds of decisions. Personally, I don't see why a manufacturer couldn't release a high end mouse/keyboard that has the option of being wireless or being connected via USB. I know there are plenty of times when I would rather have wireless keyboard and mouse when I just feel like sitting back and relaxing; likewise, there are times when a wired set would be more useful (dead batteries, gaming, etc.).
