Why doesn't someone make a wire/wireless mouse/keyboard?

It seems like that would be the best way to overcome the "wired or wireless" quandary that plagues these kinds of decisions. Personally, I don't see why a manufacturer couldn't release a high end mouse/keyboard that has the option of being wireless or being connected via USB. I know there are plenty of times when I would rather have wireless keyboard and mouse when I just feel like sitting back and relaxing; likewise, there are times when a wired set would be more useful (dead batteries, gaming, etc.).

Microsoft has made a wireless keyboard/mouse. You might have to pay a hefty price if you want it. Pricing for the most expensive one is 249.

I don't think you quite understood the question. Unless, I am missing something, the mice and keyboards from Microsoft are either completely wireless or completely wired. I was wondering why noone has attempted to make a set that could have detachable USB along with a wireless dongle.

I don't see why not. I mean is it really that difficult to release a mouse with detachable USB, keyboard likewise? And it doesn't have to be high-end either.

Because the people who want wireless connectivity want wireless connetivity, and for the people who want wired, they buy wired. I'm sure it irks companies enough that they have to release appealing peripherals in both prototypes and then produce appropriate amounts so there is no shortage but that they don't lose money.

A third market would probably just be a unneeded headache.

Besides, There are those of us who use both as is >< Wired keyboard/mouse plugged into my gaming rig, and a wireless set for when i'm not gaming.

Actually my Media Pilot is wired and wireless. The docking station/number pad is wired and the rest of the keyboard can seperate and be wired. It also has a IR controller and mouse built in. The IR controller is great, but the mouse is not the best. Tracks too slowly unless you turn up the speed all the way but then you'd have to turn it down whenever you use a standard mouse.
