Why doesn't Samsung have a .iso of their hard drive diagnostic tools?

It's weird. Every other hard drive company does. Not Samsung though, they still tell you to download it to a floppy. Most of the computers I work on now days don't even come with a floppy lol.

Speaking of diagnostic tools, I tried running Seagate's tool yesterday and the damn thing hangs. Maybe it's not happy with the nforce4.

Forget about the .iso, I cannot even get the Samsung diagnostic to work on its SATA drives. For some wierd reason it scans only the IDE ports, not the SATA ones and exits with no Samsung HDD detected. Despite e-mails to them they are equally clueless.

Excellent. Ammo against those who suggest Samsung HDDs. I think thier terrible. I guess for me snappy computer > quiet hard drive.

Well, I must correct my post. It seems that since October (at least the file is dated 30 Sep) Samsung does have an updated Hutil for their SATA drives. I downloaded it and it detected the single SATA-II HDD on my nf4 board and ran all the tests flawlessly. I can now enable/disable SMART, Auto Accoustic Management and check the HDD temp., besides other normal testing/diagnostic functions. I was looking for this since early July...

I do not think my Samsung HD160JJ is bad at all. It seems to perform better than Seagate's new drives and is very very quiet, even with AAM disabled. It also runs very cool.

Yeah, I guess it's just another reason to not recommend Samsung HDDs. The thing is, I was working on an HP system and it came with the HP lol. Sometimes HP uses Maxtor, WD, Seagate, it's mix and match. I hope Samsung gets with the program though, everyone else including Seagate has an .iso image that you can download.

sandeep108, don't keep us in suspense, where did you you find the HUTIL for your Samsung SATA? I've been running the same drive (160JJ) since June and while I don't think it's as quiet as the 40GB PATA Samsung's, it's still a good drive.

Can you provide a link to the HUTIL for Samsung SATA drives?

TIA,

Jeff

vailr, I've had that page bookmarked for a while. What I don't see on the page is a reference to the 160JJ drive. Is the hutil200 utility for SATA drives?

TIA,

Jeff

Maybe I am wrong about Dell, but I felt that they used a lot of Samsung products including LCD monitors, HDDs, etc.

Yes Jeff, that Hutil200 worked for me. Go to www.samsung.com Then support/downloads and in product enter computer products, HDD and then 160JJ. It will open the manuals page first, click on the software tab and there you have it.

imo I would never buy any internal hard drive besides western digital, maxtor, or seagate.
