Why doesn't Pocket PC natively support changing screen resolution?

I know there are programs that can do it but why doesn't MS support it automatically like their desktop OS does?

Doesn't the Pocket PC spec provide fairly rigid guidelines as to screen dimensions/resolution, etc?

With a desktop OS there's a myriad of possible display configurations, with a Pocket PC it's pretty limited.

Because with LCD, only the native resolution is best... you really shouldn't be changing resolutions with LCDs, even on the desktop.
