Why doesn't my laptop detect the network?

Alright, I have a 802.11b wireless network card built in laptop in a mixed network (combining B and G). Now my problem is that When I try and find any wireless network connections... It doesn't find any. So I try over and over, and I've installed the drivers from HP, but it still doesn't work... HPZE5375 laptop is mine... When I look, it says both adapters are disconnected... what should I do?

Btw... I have the wireless linksys router 802.11g version.

I am not sure if you are having the same problem I am, but I am using the Linksys wrt54g router, and I can't connect to my router either unless SSID broadcast is enabled. I am using the built-in windows wireless support, and I am patched up to SP2. I don't know why, but once I turn SSID back on, everything works fine.

Are you running the router with WEP enabled? Also, right click on your connection and choose view all available wireless networks. Does it show up there?

yeah I know that button, and I've tried it before I wrote this... I still can't connect... WEP is disabled, so I am running with no security. I really don't see how my built in wireless card can't detect it...

you should not have to settup ssid, if ssid is broadcasted on the router.. aslong as the windows see's and ssid, especially wit service pack2 it will create it automatically.

if the computer works fine in any other wireless environment, than i might be the router, or it if you have any 2.4 ghz phones, turn them off, move the router closer to the pc, play with the channel settings on the router and set the Preamble type to long, (channel 11 is usually best)

still does not work, but ur certine the computer works somewhere than open your window unplug the router and throw it out side for wasting you ur.

But if this compter cannot connect any where else, and you turned the button on than you have a BIG paperweight.

1. Does pc world wirelessly else where
2. Could it be the router
3. Could it be enviornment

You got a nice setup for a nOoob!

Nooobyyyy :)

Well, I used to remember my linksys access point used to give off an SSID, but it could never connect... Hmm... question... should I try hooking up my access point to the router? and try and give off a signal from there??? It might work... Btw... I don't use SP2... keeps screwing up my computers...
