Why doesn't my Dual Link Cable work? HELP!

I have a Westinghouse 22" (1680x1050) and I just bought a Dell 1907FP (1280x1024).

I have a single-link DVI cable I've been using on the 22" for a long time that works.

I bought a new Dual-Link DVI-D cable (only one I could find) for the Dell and that will not display any resolutions above 1280x720. The monitor (both of them) instead display an error saying that the "settings are out of limits" and to reset my video options to something the monitor can display.

I have tested both monitors with the single link cable (they both work).
I have tested both DVI ports on my Graphics card (they both work, with the single link cable at resolutions up to 1680x1050.
(I have a Radeon X1950 GT with dual DVI outputs, I've been running dual screens with the 22" and a 15" at 1024x768 but with the second screen over analog.)

Is there some setting in the Catalyst Control Center or Windows that I am missing? As near as I can tell, this *should* wor

Thanks.

That has nothing to do with being dual-link. Dual-link is required to support resolutions greater than 1920x1200, or lower resolutions with greater refresh rates. I don't know what could be causing your issue. Maybe there's something wrong with the dual-link cable you have, since you said the single link cable work fine individually. Have you tested using the dual-link cable individually?

I know it *shouldn't* have anything to do with it being dual-link. I tried every configuration I could think of. New cable with new monitor, new cable with old monitor, new cable in DVI out 1, new cable in DVI out 2, I even took the monitor and the cable over to another computer. Nothing worked, the Dell would just display a "settings out of range error" and the westinghouse would either say "check cable connection" or display a garbled image (like it was trying to display at the wrong refresh rate or something)

Went out and picked up a Single-Link DVI cable today and that's working perfectly. I'd like to try the cable out on a monitor that supports dual link, but I haven't got one; and I don't really think it's a good idea to invest $400 to test a $40 cable and my GPU struggles enough with 1680x1050.

I'll buzz the cable out with my multi-meter... maybe that'll shed some light on the issue. Thanks for your help anyway.
