Why doesn't IKEA sell caskets?

I know you will say: 'but it's a furniture store!'. Hey, look at Costco - they aren't exactly a funeral home either. I bet IKEA could make a killing on those: self-assembly to bring the costs down, particle board instead of real wood for quicker decomposing. And, of course, you can put the body in and out 10,000 times as illustrated by their test machine in the glass cube.

I am going to send them this business proposal right now.

Caskets aren't expensive because of assembly, they're expensive because funeral homes take a massive markup because they can exploit grieving family members. "Didn't you love your wife enough to give her the best?"

Why does she need the best? She is dead.

You should be allowed to buy self assembled biodegradable caskets from IKEA and bury your love ones in your own backyard. Funeral homes and cemeteries are a ripoff.

"Nah, wrap him in newspaper. It's what he would have wanted."

Why doesn't IKEA sell caskets?

Because garbage bags are cheaper and easier?

Who needs a garbage bag when you already have a garbage disposal.

"I'm shocked! Food goes in the disposal, hair and flesh go in the trash!"</bender>

Somewhere I recently read an article about a guy who explored a growing trend - going back to the way things were 50 years ago, pre-funeral home era. He had a funeral for his father for a small fraction of the cost of a modern funeral. Visitation in the home, etc.; even a homemade casket. (Had pictures, it looked decent.)

I agree - what a huge waste of resources to blow $10k or more on sticking a dead body into the ground. I hope my family is smart enough not to do that with me. Cremate me, spread my ashes in the garden or something.

Yeah, come on people. Let the puns and wordplay rest in peace. No need to beat them to death, just keep them pent up inside, and take them to the grave with you.

cause when a loved one has died do you really want to be getting angry when they've only given you two 1.25" screws when you need four???
