Why doesn't everyone start their own FTP?

On other forums I browse, many users include a link to their own FTP. Everybody has one; it's a great way to share files, movies, etc...

I dont have one because:

1. too many exploits available for many of the big ftpds out there
2. many people trade warez on them
3. I dont need Windows software (let alone warez)
4. I dont have enough upload bandwidth to support that and everything else
5. passwords being sent in plaintext is a stupid idea
