It should work. Why it doesn't, however, is impossible to tell without more information about your system.

Ummm...why would you want to run BF2 on such a slow system?...the 9250 is much slower than the 8500, the 8500 was a good video card, for late 2001-early 2002.
I have the following and I still get pretty average performance from BF2

AMD Athlon 64 3000+@2.66Ghz(266x10 1.5v)
GA-K8NS PRO skt 754
1GB DDR400
2x 250Gb Maxtor SATA2 in Raid 0
ASUS V9999GT 128MB(6800GT)

BF2 is pretty hard on one's PC...I think it's time for you to upgrade

From the benchmarks, BF2 isn't that intesive now, new cards are easy at 16X10 with aa and af

@ stumps
you should be ok at 10X7 MAX maybe even with 16x AF

yeah it runs OK(I dont use AA/AF ) but it does drop below 30fps occasionally, time for a 7800gs I think

7800GS isn't a night and day difference I think, better get pci e or wait

also to the OP
isn't 9250 an overclocked 9200, and 9200 doesn't have sm 1.3 right?
that is the reason

anyway that system can for most practical purposes can't play BF2, even if it does, absolute crap

It could be your serious lack of RAM. 256mb is barely enough to run Windows, let alone a memory hog like BF2.

The 9250 has PS1.4 just like any other variant of 8500.

Problem is, it's a bastardization of a bastardization of a bastardization of a bastardization (8500 LE, 9000, 9100, 9200). At this point the performance of the original 8500 is nothing more than a dim and distant memory.

Your memory and cpu definitely are not helping matters either. Battlefield 2 is a memory glutton. I'm suprised it would bother to even bring up a splash screen on 256mb.

@akshayt

a 7800gs is alot better than a 6800gt. Gainwood make a 7800gs+ with 512mb memory and a g71 core (same as 7900gt).

agreed. BF2 runs best with at least 2GB of ram. Also, the game is designed to run on computers with more modern video cards. I have a radeon 8500 at home and BF2 is just playable at the lowest settings on my A64 3400+ w/ 2gb ram.

You're system is just too slow to ever run the game smoothly, even with 2gb of ram. I have an 1800+ at home and it bottlenecks my computer when trying to run BF2 and even HL2 w/ my 6800GT.

Hmmm, apparently a fix for people running an AGP 9250 was to change the AGP speed to 4x in the BIOS. After that, the game ran properly.

Sorry to say this but after patch 1.3 BF2 stopped working for users of 9000, 9100, and 9200 series cards (not sure about 8500's). The 9500, 9700, 9800 all work fine. Also, Mloot is correct, 256MB is very low for running BF2. I have one system running BF2 rigth now with a 9500 abd 512 MB RAM and it runs BF2 at very acceptable frame rates.

If you want to play BF2 I'm afraid you may need an upgrade. The cheapest way to go would be to get a stick of 512MB DDR & a used 9800 or a X700 pro. Just make sure your PSU is good enough to handle it b/c they both require a decent PSU.

And for those above stop crapping on his system. Not everbody can afford to upgrade every 6 months. The only people who should be responding are people who have information that can HELP the poster.

you really should consider a console if your trying to play on that computer.
if not then do the following

1. get 1gb ram (80 bucks)
2. get a 7300gs/gt (80 buck)

then watch bf2 fly
i play with a video card slower than a 7300gt and easily play at 12x10.
the ram is a minimum for playing bf2.

lol its funny how people try to run such a high end game on a outdated pc. If your computer cant run bf1942 then no way is bf2 gonna run. I thought I would have the greatest performance when I got bf2 since i had a 7800gt and 2gb ram. Well bf2 is a big memory hog and a 7800gt still lagged me a bit on high settings. The a64 3200+ was also contributing to the problems.

The supported cards list is total bs. 8500? 9250? x300!? BF2 won't be able to run reasonably well even at very low settings on those cards.
