Sometimes, I hate having to buy secondary party boards- why can't we just buy reference motherboards from AMD like Intel does? AMD is about to go high-end by Q2 2003 with the Hammer and being able to provide self-branded mobos would be a boon to their effieciency and maybe even performance. It would meld two critical PC components to the same manufacturer, and AMD would have greater control over system design and performance. Less third party vendors to deal with on compatibility issues as well (ex: AMD to Gigabyte- "will your VIA Ethernet controller be compatible with our new CPU? We're concerned about your Realtek chipsets as well...")- they could do everything their way with their own components and I think we would all benefit from it.
I'm also just sick and tired of purple and red PCBs and would like to get everything back to traditional, serious, non-flashy, reference-spec green PCB boards. It's hard to push high-end business systems to your clients when you have ridiculous colors littering the inside of your boxes, not to mention gold heat sinks from everyone trying to push some kind of stupid 'bling' factor...
Why can't AMD make AMD motherboards? Your thoughts?
