Why doesn't AMD bring back the XT/Pro monikers?

Ok, since I suppose this old thread of mine become much more relevant given the recent news of the 7970 Ghz Edition, I'll bump it. I suppose AMD has already decided on "Ghz Edition" which, IMO, is a god damn retarded moniker but whatever.

Because no one wants to conform to a competitors 'extreme black ninja platinum edition' moniker. The result is confusion, fanboism and, buyers remorse but, hey, the 'new ultimate factory overclocked turbo nitro excalibur edition' is just around the corner. Marketing dweebs need to get a life, their own.

Yeah, its funny how they keep raising the numbers... They used to have the Radeon 9200 and such, then the X300, then the HD2400, and now there is nothing below 700

I predict in another 5 years their cards will be named 9995, 9996, etc, assuming they dont go into 5 digit territory... Im actually curious about this... Nvidia went back to 3 digit after they reached the 9800, so I wonder if AMD will do the same... Radeon GTX 280 😀

There are various things below 700, they are just IGPs.
Also they already went into 5 digit territory, but used an X instead to represent 10, so they had the X1800 instead of 11800.
Then they replaced the X with HD, to make the HD2000 series.
