Why doesn't all milk come in glass bottles

There are so many advantages to milk in glass bottles.

1. It is more environmental, you just rinse out the bottle and return them.
They clean and disinfect the bottle and fill them back up with milk to sell again.

2. The milk taste better.
You don't get the plastic after taste that you do with milk in plastic containers.

3. It is healthier and safer.
You don't have to worry about toxic plastics leeching into your milk.

I only buy milk in glass containers for these reasons. I use to buy raw milk too, but stopped since I was worried about bacteria.

I think I've only ever seen one brand selling it in bottles. Some organic crap. I suppose plastic is cheaper. Hell, they don't even sell it in jugs here. We're so advanced in Canada, we put ours in a plastic bag.

I wonder what ever happened to door-to-door milk delivery.

2. I'm a huge fan of milk (easily my favorite drink) IMO taste isn't affected unless you're drinking right out of the container

3. there's no way its that much healthier or safer. Problems with plastic leeching really only occur when you have hot liquids in them, and awareness has lead to safer plastics and we can even argue that plastic is healthier as it will block UV light that will degrade vitamins

glass bottles really only make sense if you do actually return them for refills where that process doesn't require much distance for shipping

however we could say the same for plastic and recycling as only about 29% actually recycle

so basically it comes down to people being too lazy to bother reusing/recycling and thus plastic is ultimately cheaper and better because of its ability to block ultraviolet light that degrades vitamins (A and D and riboflavin specifically)

At the stores here they charge you 1.5 for the glass bottles, so you best return them to get your 1.5 back.

the glass milk bottles I've tried don't pour right, leaving nasty milk dribble everywhere, plus they're impossible to handle (safely) with one hand

plastic jugs on the other hand are a miracle industrial design. No dribble, easy to handle with one hand, no worry about glass shards cutting up your insides.

couldn't you get the same feeling by pouring it into a glass cup (like you should anyways) rather than drinking it out of the bottle?

I only buy chocolate milk in glass container, cause the only good tasting chocolate milk comes from a local dairy and they only use glass, for regular whole milk I just buy it in plastic though. (most of the time i use it for baking or cooking anyway)

Time to start making bottles out of Gorilla Glass.

It would at least make movie-style bar fights more interesting. I guess that instead of stabbing someone in the eye with a shattered bottle, you could simply beat them over the head repeatedly with an astonishingly resilient bottle.
