Why doesn't Acura build this???

In terms of R&D costs, it would be a very cheap car to design and produce. The parts are already there!

Would you buy this car?

Acura TSX/Euro Honda Accord body style/chasis
250hp I4 engine found in the S2000
6-speed MT transmission as found in the S2000
RWD with Limited Slip Differential
Fully-equipped price: $30-35K

I think if they were to make this, lines would form outside Acura dealers. They couldn't make enough!

The TSX is a FWD and the drive train you list is RWD. They would have to develop a new car except for the drive engine and maybe the transmission.

They would likely be better off going with one of their V6 variants in that car. The FC20/22 is lively in the S2000, but being placed in that car with it's limited torque it would have to bear quite a weight penalty, as I'm guessing the TSX is at least ~3400lbs.

Well, supposedly the TSX will be getting a bump in hp when Acura refreshes it in the MY2007 model. The TSX itself uses a 200hp 2.4L engine but the ECU is taken directly from the 4cyl 2.4L 170hp Accord. With only some ECU tuning, companies have shown the TSX making 240hp NA at the crank. Hondata is said to be working on an ECU flash for the current TSX, but I believe that Honda can probably squeeze more horsepower out of the K24 powerplant pretty easily. As for RWD, I doubt that would happen with the current generation TSX. You'd be more likely to see AWD in the TSX or TL before you'd see RWD.

If you want a TSX and want to squeeze some more horsepower out of it, Comptech and Jackson Racing are both very close to releasing a Supercharger for the TSX putting out somewhere around 240whp.

I doubt it...as much as I'd love to see this car made.

Check out this list of the top 20 selling vehicles - Link. It's from 2003 but the US hasn't changed that much since then. There isn't a sports car or a high-powered sporty car on the list at all.

The reason Honda/Acura wouldn't make it is because they know they'd be better off pumping out compact/full-size econoboxes or continuing their foray into the SUV/pickup field.

[Edit] By the way, if you want this to be a popular car, why the F20C? Don't get me wrong, I love the neck-breaking feel of my S2000 but it's definitely not for everybody.

Acura has already said it's going to go AWD on it's line in the near future, I doubt they won't alter the powerplants as well. I'll take AWD over RWD anyday.

I'd think the engine would be too peaky for a large car..sure, it'll probably move, but not until 6500rpm. 😛

I think you'd need a more powerful engine to make it worth while.

Sounds great, except I would put in a V6. If I buy luxury, I don't want a whining little 4 cylinder

Except the AWD used in Honda vehicles are all FWD biased unlike Infiniti's.

As for the original question, why would they take a smaller engine (2.2 liter vs. 2.4 liter) and put it in a larger car (2800 lbs vs 3300 lbs).
I would bet money that it will be slower than the current TSX.
And it's 240 hp, no 250 hp, and that power is up there at 7800 RPM.
The car would be horribly unbearable in daily driving.

Looks great on paper, but would be different in a real application.
