Why does Win7 RC1 install updates automatically, if you set it to "download and ask"

Just wondering about this, if it could be a bug, or perhaps something more nefarious from MS.

I set Win7 to download updates, and prompt me before installing them. But when I power-off, it installs updates automatically. Very annoying. How do I get it to stop this?

The default "Shut Down" switch in Windows will "Install Updates and Shut Down the PC" no matter what your Windows Update settings are. You have to find the "Just shut the damn thing down and don't install the updates" selection to avoid this. Are you sure this isn't what's happening?

Really? That's bizarre behavior. Since when is the act of shutting down, considered an implicit allow for update installation. That's just wrong.

I suggest using notify of updates, and only download on demand. That way you can check everything out, and it won't take drive space unless you want them.

its been that way for xp and into vista for the longest time. the reasoning behind it i guess is because you dont want to install the updates in the middle of working with the machine which is understandable. seeing as you are turning off the machine why not install the updates that you have downloaded
