why does Win2K show my speed as 115,000 bps over dialup?

in win98se, it would show up as 45,333 bps which was more accurate. Now I don't know exactly what speed Im connected to using Erthlink dialup. Ive set the maximum port speed to 57,000 bps but this still shows up.

Improper modem driver I suppose. It's reporting the serialized connection rate, rather than modem rate. You could find the correct AT code to compensate.

It's the speed of the connection between your computer and the modem, not the connection between the two modems.
