Why does Win2k safemode take so long to load?

I've noticed this too. Takes a few mins for me, which doesn't seem right. Anybody know why?

Tip : When going to a friend's house and they are rebooting their computer, quickly press F8 then boot into safe mode so it takes like 5 mins to load their PC! It's great fun, because if they stop it, they get improper shutdown error on reboot. Hehe, only do that if you don't mind getting attacked by your friend. 🙂

I would assume all the network code is probably doing it. *shrug* You shouldn't need safe mode in win2k very much, if at all. I've never booted safe mode on my 2 win2k boxes, and I have been running it for over 6 months now.. 🙂

W2K has no real mode boot ready to go . . . it has to create that so that it can be in SAFE MODE. Same thing happens in ME and will happen in XP. Safe Mode is a boot without protected mode windows drivers active . . . just basic real mode drivers at 640x480 and a few colors to brighten things up. So, all these new "DOS-less" systems have to create that and then boot to it.
