ok on my win98se machine while i try to browse my win 2k computer in network neighborhood it is asking for a password...

looks like this

resource: \\cha\ipc$
password:

...i input all the passwords i know..still nothing...whats going on?

In order to access a Win2k box, you'll have to give the password of an account on that PC. The name of the PC from which you access the Win2k box is the username, so an account for the Win98 box "slave" on the Win2k box would look like this:

username: slave
password: password

well i tried that out..it didnt work...
this is what i did..interpretation of what you said
on comp win98se
created a username and password

also...win 2k can browse win98se through my network places...no password prompt there...only win98 to win2k

I had the same problem. You'll need to create a user account on the Windows 2000 PC, for the Windows 98 PC.

Start >> Program Files >> Administrative Tools >> Computer Management

Go down to Local Users & Groups and right click to create a new user. Use the same user name and password as your Win98 box.

😉

Or, you can enable the GUEST account on your Windows 2000 machine. When you do this, on your shares you will be able to add the GUEST USERS group to the ACL. But, remember, anyone will have access to the share that you allow the GUEST USERS to access. If you do not want anyone to edit files on your share, just allow the READ ACL.
