Why does win2000 always default to 60hz ?!?

it drives me nuts...
I use my desktop at 800x600 but I like DVDs at 1024x768, my video card and monitor can do 85Hz at both res, but whenever I change win2000 always defaults to 60Hz

Does anyone know how to change the default?
(I know how to change it back to 85hz, but I have to do it every time i change res and it drives me insane..)

Why not just set it at optimal so it'll find the highest possible refresh rate for every resolution you choose?

🙂
I removed all refresh rate less than 85Hz from the INF file,
so my monitor's refresh rate always stay at 85Hz.

Ahh there we go 🙂

My monitor wasn't set as Plug and Play monitor, I guess it got messed up when I swapped video cards.
Now it stays happily at 85Hz.

<< Weird, mine holds steady at 85Hz. >>

Same here.

Glad you found a fix though. My options (or nvidia drivers) don't allow me to use plug and play monitor (that option went away when I uninstalled my V5), I must use a driver disk, which I have anyway so worked out great(Sony G400). It just allows me to hide modes, which my monitor cannot display (though 120Hz-60Hz is available).

Make sure you have your monitor drivers installed. I had a similar problem till I used the correct drivers/refresh rate fixer.

Hmm ok if I change my resolution manually it stays at 85Hz now (Plug'n'Play monitor), but when PowerDVD changes it, it goes to 60Hz 🙁

My monitor is at 85hz usually, but run almost any program... and whammo, 60hz refresh. Hope that fix works, since I loaded the latest drivers for my monitor (Optiquest) and it's not doing shiat.
