Why does Wendy's drive thru offer a refund if you don't get your receipt?

Because with no receipt, the kid at the window could be lying to you about the purchase amount and keep money for himself.

I would imagine that a pattern of the books being short on a certain person's shift (or a disproportionate number of free meals because of this rule) would eventually raise suspicions. The largest source of inventory shrinkage is employee theft, this is just a similar method to curb it.

I don't know. I imagine for the same rerason that Taco Bell has a digital display outside the drive thru. The sign has words to the effect of, If your total doesn't match the displayed total call 800 XXX-XXXX

on a related note, how can wendy's take credit cards at the drive thru and not require you to sign anything? I've noticed the same thing at Chipotle.

WTF use is a fast food receipt. It's not like you're going to return it, and even if you did try to return it, it's not like they could say you bought it somewhere else.

I don't think the Wendys around here have those LED displays.
Bobby could take your order, never enter it into the system, give you your food , and pocket $17.22 or whatever.
