I normally only drink diet sodas, so I am used to the flavor of them. But for some reason Wendys diet coke (or pepsi, whichever it is) tastes horrible to me. It has a sour aftertaste that basically reminds me of vomit or bile. It's not just one particular Wendys either, they are all like that. Why. o_O

Because they aren't cleaning and sterilizing the syrup tanks before refilling them. Most fast food restaurants don't.

Every other restaurant I go to tastes fine. I was thinking maybe its the plastic cups they come in but some stores use paper cups and they also taste like vomit.

I put diet soda drinkers down there with cig smokers. Bunch of total dipshits.

I put people that think diet sodas are bad for your health in the same category of people that claim that radio waves and cell phones cause cancer.

Of course they are bad for your health. Artificial sweeteners can have the same effect on your body as natural sugars can - diabetes being one.

Not to mention all the other chemicals that go into them.

You've got it backwards. They are cleaning the soda heads and the other places aren't. What the OP is tasting is the actual taste of diet soda.

Most places don't use refillable tanks anymore. They usually use the syrup bag in box system, more sanitary and you don't have to worry about storing the empty canisters and sending them back to the distributor.

If they aren't cleaning the fountain mixer heads now that could be another issue.

At a local restaurant, I usually get Coke Zero, because I found that the Diet Coke tasted funny. Whenever I buy coke in cans, I normally get Diet Coke (caffeine free), so I'm pretty used to the (canned) taste.

I think the best solution to this problem is to just stop eating at Wendy's. Literally every single other burger chain is better than Wendy's.
