Why does Water dry out your hands?

I think your natural moisturizers evaporate along with the water that gets left behind after you dry your hands... just a shot in the dark..

Because the water causes some of the oils naturally produced by the skin to wash away. Thus your hands feel drier. Notice hot water makes your hands feel even drier. That's because hot water is able to wash away even more oil (greater solubility).

Yes, I learned the hard way. Water+Soap and repeat several times a day because of clamy palms= REALLLY dry hands. BUT, Water+Soap THEN lotion after drying hands = silky smoothness!

Its Van der Waals on the Non-polar soap to oil side, but its dipole dipole between the water and the soap. The water can't take away the oil very well because its polar and the oil isnt but the soap works well because it has both polar and nonpolar ends that stick to both the soap and the water.
