why does ti-86 graph so slowly?

I've always wondered why my ti-86 takes about 8 times as long as everybodys' 83+'s to graph something. they both use 6MHz Z-80. doesn't the 86 calculate things to a higher level of accuracy or something? if so, is there a way to turn it down? I don't need super accuracy

Could it have anything to do with the lack of Flash memory? That's one of the major differences IIRC, but I don't see why it would have any difference in graphing.

Yes, I find the TI-86 is slower at everything than the 82/83/89.

Anyway, you can decrease the resolution by going to GRAPH->WIND->xRes and increasing it to, say, 3.

I noticed this also. The 86 has a tolarance function, maybe that is the key? maybe you can turn down how accurate the calculator calculates?

From what I can remember, it's the accuracy level. The 83 AFAIK doesn't graph to any degree of precision.

If you want to speed things up, in WIND look at the xres and yres. As I remember, it controls how many points the calculator computes between each unit of x or y.

Although personally, I wouldn't mess with it. You never know what little intricacy the 86 will point out to you because it checks so many points. Holes, inversions, etc. It's saved my butt on more than one occasion.

BTW, 89 + 92 > *. 🙂 Use the 92 in class, and the 89 on tests. A GraphLink lets me ensure that all of the variables *cough* cheat sheets *cough* are the same on both calcs.
