Hello,

why does the wireless light on my ADSL router/hub flash every now and then. none of my devices are connected to it, neither does the interface indicate so.

you mean broadcasting the beacon, but not actually transmitting information to a hacker (that is what i am concerned about)

It is tramsmitting for sure.

Whether the transmission goes to thin air or to an hacker it does not matter, cause you can not do any thing per-sr about it.

Using WPA makes it virtually hacker proof.

Hi

how do i turn of SSID?
i am looking at the options on my broadband router and it says "Allow multicast from Broadband Network:", is that what will turn of the SSID?

not familiar with that. there should be something that mentions broadcasting the SSID. but if you *are* using WPA as you stated, you dont need to disable SSID broadcasting, even for security purposes. the SSID is still transmitted in cleartext when you try to connect to the AP in the first place, so it can be sniffed anyway, and it would just make connecting to your own AP more aggravating, especially if there are others nearby that your pc can see.

check this wiki article on it
