Why does the vast majority say "China will be the next superpower" when that's a longshot at best?

But still so swift to condemn other contries that do the same... ahhh... the irony is bleeding me dry...

Yup. You have the ability and right to do so when you're the worlds sole superpower.

Damn the United States for acting in its own interests. Damn, damn, damn them.

Noone forbids America acting in it's self interest. However, when America does, it feels the need to spew evangelistic garbage about how it does so for democracy and liberation. This is what the world hates us for.

When every country is acting in its own self interest, do they state it? Of course not, it would never work. When France and Germay was saying no to the war in Iraq, you honestly believe it was because they cared about the poor Iraqis? Every country does this, and it will always do this. Yes the U.S. is hyprocritical, but so is every single country out there. The reason why it seems so evident in the U.S., is because we act most in the international community. Every single action we take will affect the international communty being the super power, being military means or economic means.

Furthermore, people suggest we stop meddling in the international scene then, but that would be horrible. What would happen to South Korea? What would happen to Taiwan? What would happen to Japan? If we cut back on our military, these countries would have to spend even more on their defense. Even those that don't have specific treaties, such as Canada and Mexico would have to increase their spending. You think if we isolated ourselves further places like North Korea would start liking us more? I doubt it, they would take every opportunity to attack South Korea and even Japan.

True, the U.S. was part of the reason for the creation of some of the problems in the world. But we can't undo the past. We have to attempt to correct our mistakes, just like we did in Iraq. At the cost of innocent Iraqi lives? Sad to say, but yes. The only reason I supported the war in Iraq, is because I believe the current Iraqi population and the future Iraqi population will have a better life than if nothing changed. Yes, it will essentially be a puppet government by the U.S. and it may not be great, but it will still be better than it was before I believe. I will hold Bush accountable for this.

You make frivolous arguments. Heck, I agree with them most of them though, but I don't see them as working. There is a difference between what we should do, and what we can do. The world will ALWAYS hate the superpower.

China has its population under realistic control and can harness their resources much more effectively right now than a majority of the other countries in the world. Russia lost its political grip over the population when they uncorked their resources and allowed the consumer market to begin to meet demand. Ever since the Russian military doesn't have but a fraction of its energy needs to sustain any type of deployment beyond its borders. The action it took in Chechnya was actually a pretty heavy burden on their federal government. If it hadn't been such an emotionally charged act of terrorism that sparked the invasion, affecting so many families of the elite in Russia, they would have never invaded.
