Why does the US have so little vacation time?

Italians have the most wonderful work weeks.
30 hours or so, and a 2 hours lunch everyday.

Americans have this insane drive to be rich and successful.
 
Here in the UK the average is 4 or 5 weeks,my sister gets 11 weeks every year for her full time job,she has the record holiday(vacation) wise that I know of.

I work for a German company. I get 6 weeks - but that includes sick time (if I take any)

Its funny (sort of) when people that work for me come in deathly ill trying to protect their days off...
