Why dont they call it 'timer' then? And why does 'Snooze' turn it off?

no idea why its not called a timer.

and Snooze doesent turn it off. it just lets you "snooze" for X more min till it blares in your ear again

It doesn't. It's just another timer for when the alarm goes off.

Sleep - turns the radio on for when you want to sleep, so it shuts itself off while you're sleeping. It helps you get to sleep.
Snooze - turns the radio off for when you want to sleep, but kicks back on to wake you up again so you don't oversleep. It helps you be late for work.

It's called the sleep button because you use it to go to sleep. Just like on a TV.
The snooze button turns it off because it would have been rather pointless to make an extra button just to turn off the radio while in sleep mode. And the snooze button makes sense, because it is already used in alarm mode to make things quiet. However, in alarm mode it will come back on in 6 or 9 minutes depending on your alarm, but when you use it in sleep mode, it stays off

The clock radio people shot down my suggestion to call it the "play music for a short period of time until you fall asleep" button.

On a simialr note, how does it know when you will fall sleep. And should't the sleep button only work with like classical music and John Tesh? That stuff will put you to sleep RIGHT QUICK!

it's called a sleep btn, because the radio goes to sleep after a set amount of time designated by the user. the same for the TVs, not because the owners goto sleep after hitting the sleep btn... (but people usually use it to before going to sleep i guess.)

i dun use the sleep feature to goto sleep, since its at night, so i turn the music down pretty low, when the alarm goes off in the morning, i won't be able to hear it, so it defeats the purpose of the alarm clock :(

it could've been called a timer, but why not ask the techies that made the thing in the first place? certain conventions are better left in the dark..
