I keep hearing from different entertainment shows and newscast saying that Pearl Harbor has bombed. But according to showbizzdata it's over $165M. Movies like Swordfish and Evolution and Moulin Rouge seem to have bombed way more than PH. Is this just media spin or what.

because it cost over 125mil to make last time i checked, and that was with salary deferment etc, so even after its hit 165mil it is still probably paying actors etc. takes an extreme amount for the thing to turn a profit, it was a huge risk. Other movies like scary movie cost nothing to make yet churn out many times over its costs, those are successes. Apparently if you compare mission impossible 2(opened same time last year) with pearl harbor, mi 2 did better:p think it cost less to make too. you also have to factor in that mi2 opened on wedneday and ph on friday in this calculation.:p

Actually, Pearl Harbor cost over $135 million to make and is over $40 million behind a cartoon....Shrek, which has grossed over $200 million so far, and was released after PH. Heck, even Mummy is ahead of PH.

Given Pearl's immense buildup before its debut, then its debut on an aircraft carrier in Pearl Harbor, etc., etc., it has bombed...or maybe fizzled out is a better term.

Interesting the producers are now counting on overseas releases to make the movie profitable. Affleck, et al, are in Japan this week hyping the release over there.

A movie usually has to bring in twice what it costs before making any money because gross profits don't subtract what the theatres get along with a few other things. Word of mouth is what detroyed it for people. Many thought it would be a "saving Private Ryan" type film but was a "Titanic" clone. It seems the public isn't ready for another one of those films. I remember when a film made $50 million it was doing great.

Belive it or not, Pearl Harbor is getting worse reviews in other countries than in the US, still people will go and see it, just to see what is so bad :)

I'd go see it, but who wants to sit in a theater for more than three hours? Better to wait for the dvd.

Yeah, long movies are tough to watch in a movie theater. I can't sit for that long without stretching my legs or something. :)

It's considered a "bomb" by most because the storyline is far from accurate. It turns one of the most important events in world history into a syrupy, Hollywood love story, while relegating the facts and events of Pearl Harbor to a secondary position. This poor excuse for a movie can't carry the jock of an old Pearl Harbor movie called, Tora, Tora, Tora!
Rent it, instead.

it made tons its first weekend (almost half of what it has grossed so far!) but then people realized how pathetic it was.

Hell, SHREK is annihilating it in the box office. Maybe they will stop funding Michael Bay these ridiculous amounts of money for such ridiculous, ass-stinking movies.

For what its worth I still think PH is worth watching. Most people I know enjoyed it. It just could have been so much more :(
