Why does the man always drive?

Just a curiosity question. With married couples, it seems like the man always drives if they all go somewhere as a family. Group outings, it's always a man who drives. Doesn't seem to be the case with teenagers, probably cause we're poor and gas is expensive. What do y'all think?

Because everyone knows that women can't drive ;)

Because it gives men a good excuse to zone out, and because for some reason, chicks are ALWAYS insecure about their driving.

Even though my girlfriend drives ~80 miles a day, whenever she's here and we're going to dinner, it's always me doing the driving. Same with ex-girlfriends, even if it's me driving their car.

Plus it leaves them free to do 'other things' .... :D

If that were true, we wouldn't be paying higher insurance rates...

well that's because MORE men drive=more accidents with a male driver
kinda like Microsoft has more security holes in Windows than (insert any OS) because Windows has a lot more exposure.

If Jessie ever wants to drive the van, she can.

It might be the last day of my life, but she can. I can do 60 on a dirt road in that thing without flinching. She can't quite do 45 on a perfectly smooth asphalt road with banked turns in her mom's Honda. Oh, and she sucks at shifting, too. I don't drive manuals often, but I can sure as hell do better than her. But she's still learning, not fully licensed yet.

Because the man is supposed to have the power. Let me ask you this.. would you want your wife to work while you stayed at home with the kids?

it depends... if i'm too tired to really pay attention to my surroundings, i don't mind if she drives. but otherwise, most of the time i find myself gripping the armrest whenever a girl drives.

Lately my gf has been driving when we go out. I don't mind her driving at all. In fact I think she and I have about the same skill. Her rationale is I have to fight traffic to get to her place plus my car now needs premium and doesn't get as good mileage as hers.

it's just traditional. My wife will not drive at all with me as the passenger...she is japanese when we hang out at the Japanese Museum or functions it's the same way....the man always handles the money, the driving, the speaking....it's wierd for me in a way because I am not like that, only recently I got her to order her own food as you could tell the waitresses thought I was some controlling husband when she had me order for her.

because those who are married now were born in a different time than those who are in the teenager/young adult dating phase.

slightly different social values, in most cases
